Welcome to Acorn Class
Welcome to Acorn class, a place where young minds grow and thrive! Our class is home to the delightful children of Nursery, Reception, Year 1, and Year 2. Here we believe in the power of a nurturing, engaging, and exciting environment. In Acorn class EYFS children blossom through a blend of child-initiated play and adult-led activities, nurturing their natural curiosity and love for learning. Simultaneously our KS1 children embark on an exhilarating journey through our ‘Shine Curriculum’, designed to ignite their passion for exploration and discovery.
Every child in acorn class is cherished as a unique individual each encouraged to let their light shine in everything they do. We embrace and celebrate the uniqueness of our children, fostering an inclusive community where every child feels heard and valued. Our commitment to nurturing individuality and providing a supportive, encouraging atmosphere complimented by our Christian values, is at the heart of everything we do. Join us in Acorn Class where every acorn grows into a mighty oak!
Class Activities and Events
It was wonderful to welcome visitors from the Canal and River Trust into school. They taught us about the dangers around canals and all the ways we can keep ourselves safe. Not only that they taught us how canals were built. We learned about the role of the engineer who designed the canal and the importance of the ‘Navies’ who were the workers and actually built it. This involved a lot of digging! Clay was used to line the canal. The children had lots of fun pretending to be Navies and building our own canal in a large tray of sand.

During our ‘World Book Day’, we were all immersed in the joy of books! Children loved sharing a wide variety of books together but they also had lots of fun exploring the world of the ‘Colour Monster’. Throughout the day the children participated in baking, Science, Art, Reading and music activities all related to different aspects of the book.

After testing out our field work skills around the school and grounds, we set off on our adventure into the village. It is amazing just how much there is to see in a small village. We identified human and physical features, observed how building had changed over time, discovered thatched roofing and made the most of features like the skate park.

We can all find the rain a little trying from time to time but in Acorn Class, it is an opportunity to create magnificent art work using chalk!

The children had fun filling our new bug house with resources from our outside area and Forest School.

The children have been learning about their senses. They conducted numerous experiments including a smell test, apple tasting, and blindfolded activities to explore the sense of touch.

KS1 children learned about the week-long Jewish Festival of Sukkah and had fun making their own Sukkah tent in the outside area.
